USCG here to lend a hand
This would not have been possible without the assistance of the fine men and women in the United State Coast Guard.
Scotty
Scotty is checking out his new digs. "Ok buddy, when you are finished fixing her up we will be back for you. Don't call us, we will call you."
Generator Room
This is where all mechanicals were located on the main gallery deck. Two large electrical generators along with the large air compressor for the air horn. All gone now.
Bell
The hunchback of Notre Dame would love this lighthouse. This large bronze bell was cast by William Blake and Sons of Boston, Massachusetts and weighs approximately 3056 pounds. It is mounted in a frame work on the gallery deck. When Scotty wants a ride home, we told him to ring the bell.... In all seriousness, this was used as a last line of defense for warning ships in Fog, in case the air horns are not in operation.
Spiral Stair Case
The core of the lighthouse is a spiral staircase for accessing all six levels of the lighthouse.
Rotting Bolts
The entire structure is concrete. Inside the concrete we find steel bolts and rebar and mesh. The problem with this setup is the bolts get saltair and saltwater intrusion. This causes rust. Rust causes expansion, expansion from the bolts along with water intrusion freezing causes cracks. We have cracks to deal with for sure.
